leaves on a stream

perched on the bank of a murmuring stream 

i slowly drift and begin to dream 

thoughts flutter down from a heart that grieves 

and land with softness on the floating leaves 

some thoughts depart at the river's end 

while others return around the bend 

after observing the dance of their passing by

my heart, unshackled, begins to fly
